You want rgdal from brew, and then rgdal from CRAN.
I assume you mean gdal from brew? That's what I installed.

Following gdal, I also need GRASS 7.0 - I couldn't find a recipe for GRASSx - do you know if there is one? Otherwise I would just try my luck and write my first one...
Is the grass recipe not what you want?
It is - how could I have missed this? I thought I tried ,---- | brew install grass `---- but I might have not. Thanks, Rainer
