Dear R-Geographers, I am trying to use the GSHHS shoreline data for annotating my maps. I used Rgshhs() from the package maptools to import it into R as a Spatial object. However it seems that there is a problem due to the new version of gshhs_2.0.zip. In the help gshhs_1.11.zip is referred. Here is my example:
NZx <- c(160,180)
NZy <- c(-50,-30)
NZ <- Rgshhs("gshhs_c.b", xlim=NZx, ylim=NZy)
Error in Rgshhs("gshhs_c.b", :
Data not same version as software
Is this a bug in Rshhs() or do I need some external librarys?
Please use gshhs_1.11.zip until an update can be made. Maybe gshhs_1.12.zip will also work, but 2.0 will not, as the C struct definition has been changed.
maptools_0.7-29.tar.gz has been submitted to CRAN, and includes support for GSHHS 2.0 with the new headers - support for earlier formats has been dropped. Roger

Any suggestions welcome.
