Current location of the Srings object (or its replacement)?

I see that the code at http://r-spatial.sourceforge.net/gallery/ is
updated to use the Polygon calls rather than the Sring calls.

Would it be good to point at this code and graphics gallery from
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/languages/R/CRAN/src/contrib/Views/Spatial.html
or http://sal.uiuc.edu/csiss/Rgeo/ to demonstrate the utility of
R-sig-Geo?
