Makevars.mac

I have a package that needs to link against a different set of  
libraries on OS X than on other *NIXes. I looked from things like  
Makevars.{mac,darwin,osx} in the Writing R Extensions manual but  
didn't find anything. Is it possible to do this short of writing a  
configure script?
