Check "cleanup history entries" in the Preferences if you don't like this. It is in fact the default AFAIR so I'm not sure why it's disabled for you. Cheers, S

A changed behavior in the new interface:
Type some command in the console, e.g. date().
Now up-arrow, and Enter.
Repeat.
Each time, an extra newline is added before pressing Enter.
The newlines begin to pile up.
