Subject: Getting "Mounting failed" message in downloads

Just got a powerbook g4 and trying to load R. Have X10.4.1

when I download R-@.1.0a.dmg I get the message Mounting failed"
message in downloads. anyone seen this before? Searched the archives
but couldnt find
