R hanging when attempting copy/paste

Often, but not always, I find that R hangs when I try to copy/paste from
one edit window to another.  I have to "Force Quit" and relaunch R twice
(the second time after doing a 'normal' close after the first relauch)
before I can continue working.  I'm running R3.6.3 on a McBookPro under OS
10.14.6 (Mojave).  I'm wondering if this is a known problem and, if so,
what the fix might be.
