RMySQL and '_fprintf$LDBLStub' symbol not found

Paul,

can you, please, supply us with some critical details such as how you  
installed and/or compiled RMySQL and whether you have a custom or  
CRAN version of R?

Hi all,

From a goggle search, it appears this problem is not unknown, and  
may be
due to compiler version differences (gcc 3.3 and 4.0).  But whatever
the cause, and despite the remedies I tried (mostly 'sudo  
gcc_select 3.3') I could not get
RMySQL to load.  Here's the error message:

    Loading required package: DBI
    Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now)) :
          unable to load shared library '/Library/Frameworks/ 
R.framework/Resources/library/RMySQL/libs/RMySQL.so':
    dlopen(/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources/library/RMySQL/ 
libs/RMySQL.so, 6): Symbol not found: _fprintf$LDBLStub
    Referenced from: /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources/ 
library/RMySQL/libs/RMySQL.so
    Expected in: flat namespace
    Error in library(RMySQL) : .First.lib failed for 'RMySQL'

This is using:

        Mac OS 10.4.3
     R version 2.1.1.
         mysql 5.0.1
           DBI 0.1-9
        RMySQL 0.5-5

Any suggestions?
