unexpected input
Thanks Mark, the culprit was indeed .Rprofile I did previously inspect this file but did not cross my mind it would cause that error, as it contains a single line to load a package at startup. Deleted the file, re-create it with the same command and it works now. Cannot explain why it previously triggered the error, just glad I'm back on track. Thanks again, Adrian

This would not be a huge issue, except that it prevents me from building
packages. In the Terminal, I get the same error and it stops there:
