Incorrect CRAN packages URL?

Mine is also Leopard Binary. All recent updates applied.
Your fix also doesn't work after I pasted you code into my Rprofile  
file. I won't supply more details until I'm confident I know how to  
use the .Rprofile. I don't use it currently.

Again, zero information provided so all I can do is speculate. I  
suspect that you're using the Package Installer in the GUI in which  
case the work-around won't work as the PM is forcing "mac.binary"  
regardless of the option.

You have two choices - wait for CRAN to update (may take sometime till  
tomorrow) or use update.packages() directly without the Package Manager.
