can't get the quartz window to the background
a) The machine will be up tomorrow b) Stefano and Simon are working on the Cocoa interface for R (which is coming along very nicely), and the problems of (b1) using Quartz from the command line and (b2) of using Aqua Tcl/Tk from the Cocoa interface are not on the list for 2.0.0.

Yes, this is the famous SetForegroundProcess problem. There is a way around it that does not involve changing the R sources. One simple version of this is to download my R from http://gifi.stat.ucla.edu/pub, although that computer is currently down. because of our move. The other is to apply the resourcefork hack.
Dear Prof de Leeuw, Thanks for the help! Before compiling R from source, I would like to try the R version that you mentioned. Do you know when the machine is going to be up? Another thing: do you think that the R core team knows about this, so the fix can be included in the next release? Thanks Tamas
