ESS on Mavericks

Do you use the same .emacs as before?  This sounds like having to do
with fortification and the R buffer, and might be solvable by using
   (setq comint-scroll-to-bottom-on-output 'others)
in your .emacs.

It would be strange if this is the source of your problem unless you're
using a new .emacs.
