I can confirm the same behaviour for Quartz windows. Perhaps someone on the r-sig-mac list (CCed) might have some insight.
2. If I include the command "x11()", the plot windows behave correctly, however not very useful as no export of the plot is possible.
This works well for me. One can still export using PDF(), png() etc although this is not as convenient as copy paste from the Quartz window.
3. The same installation on XP runs flawless. Current OS: Mac OSX 10.6.4
