There is now a version of emacs 21.1 in fink, with an aqua interface (fink install emacs-alpha). You just start it by double clicking the icon in the Applications folder, it then fills the Aqua menubar with the usual emacs menus, and it pops up the emacs startup screen with the usual Aqua buttons and bars. It is an alpha, but it seems to work fine. X11 is not needed. Installing ESS in this emacs will give you yet another way to use R in Mac OS X (without graphics, I guess). === Jan de Leeuw; Professor and Chair, UCLA Department of Statistics; US mail: 9432 Boelter Hall, Box 951554, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1554 phone (310)-825-9550; fax (310)-206-5658; email: deleeuw@stat.ucla.edu homepage: http://www.stat.ucla.edu/~deleeuw ======================================================== No matter where you go, there you are. --- Buckaroo Banzai http://www.stat.ucla.edu/~deleeuw/sounds/nomatter.au ========================================================

I am getting older, but I can still take a hint. It works, as far as I can see now. Not surprisingly, because it's just a Cocoa wrapper around the Darwin Emacs, I think.
