Did you install the gfortran from the Tools webpage of R for mac os x developer page, http://r.research.att.com/tools/ If not, install gfortran-42-5659.pkg first.

I am trying to install the lme4 package on a MBP, running the latest versions of Snow Leopard (10.6.3), Xcode (3.2) and R(2.11.1) using the R-GUI (1.34). First, lme4 is no longer listed in the cran library. Second, if I manually install it (see below), I get an error message about -lgfortran library not being found. Can anyone point me towards a solution so that I can install arm, which needs lme4? Thank you, Heidi
