[R-meta] meta-analysis of data summarised as means and SD

That is correct, metamean is part of the meta package, but as far as I 
can work out metamean in the only programme in either the meta or 
metafor packages that can deal with data summarised as means, standard 
deviations and sample number.
I am afraid your understanding is not correct. If you have an estimate 
(in your case a mean) and its standard error (which you can calculate 
from the standard deviation and sample size) then there are several 
packages capable of doing the analysis including metafor and, as Guido 
has pointed out in a separate e-mail, meta.

factor analysis so it can tell me is microplastics occur in higher 
density in Asia than North and South America but not if tropical regions 
in Asia and the America have higher densities than temperate regions.

So I am looking for an alternative to metamean that will allow two or 
more factors to be analysed at the same time and can handle summarised data.

Yes I was under the illusion that metamean could only handle a single factor, I have struggled for so long trying to find a way to do it but my knowledge of R was insufficient.
