Problem with library(lme4a)
Many thanks, Hadley. You were correct: starting a fresh session made it work. Also, I'm grateful for Ben's suggestions for the set-up. Best,

Urgh. I know nothing about this error, all I see is what's listed in <https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2008-February/154587.html> (where it referred to an installation of the rgl package): "The message indicates a damaged copy of something: either your decompression code, or rgl." Try downloading again? (Sorry not to be more helpful.)
I've seen this error when reloading a package in R - it may just indicate you need to start from a clean R session. Hadley -- Assistant Professor / Dobelman Family Junior Chair Department of Statistics / Rice University http://had.co.nz/
